Why we started
My life was what I called a normal one, that is until the wheels fell off, when at 31 I had a psychotic episode, and was taken to Prince of Wales Kilo Ward, and diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder Type One. At first I didn’t want to believe it. I just could not accept this as something that first of all was in me, and worst of all had no cure. Over the last 28 years, I have accepted my diagnosis and it has been one hell of an acceptance, to be in this exclusive club. I have now embraced my condition and each year especially at spring time I am reminded by my manic brain, that I have to do what I need to do, to calm the mania down. I now know how to deal with it as best as I can, and as the weather changes, and my additional meds begin to do their thing, I reel the mania in. I decided to help others, to openly talk, in a safe environment. To encourage each of us who have this condition, to learn and grow, and reach out to one another in support. I hope we can learn to understand and support each other, if only by listening to the stories we have to share.
